For more than 30 years, Leadership Oakland has been metro Detroit’s premier collaborative leadership experience.

And it’s time to start recruiting the leaders, doers and dreamers for the next class. The early application deadline is April 30; the final deadline to apply for the class of 2023-24 is June 30.

Each year, a diverse group of professionals takes on the challenge to grow, learn and expand their knowledge of the community – taking with them lessons that expand leadership skills and inspire change.

“Leadership Oakland provides this extremely valuable conduit for learning and development of the region’s leaders in a unique way,” said Susan Hollady, Executive Director for Leadership Oakland. “The ability to interact with class members throughout the year provides valuable lessons in patience, understanding and learning to respect individuals and the differences and diversity they all bring to our community.”

This dynamic program kicks off in September with a retreat and ends in June with a graduation celebration. Class members, from corporate, civic and non-profit organizations, meet monthly to learn about regional issues spanning from education, to government to the justice system – and more.

Each class completes a Day of Service project that is focused on giving back to the community. In addition, there are other educational opportunities and networking experiences throughout the year, like our Breakfast of Champions events.

The goal of the program is to provide local leaders with a network of colleagues, a deep understanding of challenges facing the region and an opportunity to bring back value and knowledge to their own organizations.

Leadership Oakland’s Mission

To develop a network of diverse and influential leaders by exposing them to regional resources and issues, and challenging them to reach their full personal, professional and public leadership potential.
