Michigan CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) has announced its 2024 Annual State Conference, scheduled for November 3 and 4 in Bay City. This premier event is open to individuals interested in children’s advocacy, social welfare, and Michigan’s foster care system.

Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in two days of learning, networking, and exploring Michigan CASA’s statewide programs. The conference will feature keynote speakers Gaelen Elmore and Lacy Alana, both recognized for their impactful contributions to child advocacy and trauma-informed care.

The conference brings together local CASA programs, volunteers, and partners from across Michigan, providing a platform to share knowledge and best practices in child welfare advocacy. Attendees will gain insight into Michigan CASA’s mission and efforts to support children who have been abused or neglected. With a focus on collaboration and education, the conference will also highlight CASA programs and how volunteers can impact the lives of vulnerable children throughout the state.

Michigan CASA is a nonprofit organization committed to establishing and supporting 30 affiliate programs that recruit, screen, train, and supervise CASA volunteers. Each affiliate operates independently while upholding the highest standards of advocacy for Michigan’s abused and neglected children.

CASA volunteers are specially trained community members appointed by judges to advocate for the best interests of children in foster care. Their role is to bring urgency to the child’s needs, both in and outside of the courtroom, ensuring that each child’s safety, well-being, and permanent placement are prioritized. Volunteers base their recommendations on personal relationships and a thorough understanding of the child’s unique circumstances.

The Michigan CASA Annual State Conference will be held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Bay and offers a valuable opportunity for those committed to child welfare to come together, learn, and strengthen their advocacy efforts.
