Leadership Oakland Celebrates Junior Leadership Oakland, Empowering 48 Local High School Students to Lead and Serve Their Communities

Leadership Oakland proudly announces the successful completion of this year’s Junior Leadership Oakland (Jr. LO) program, where 48 high school students from across Southeast Michigan came together to explore leadership, community engagement, and the power of giving back.

Held over multiple sessions, Junior Leadership Oakland provided these bright young leaders with opportunities to connect with peers from different schools, meet community leaders, and deepen their understanding of the region’s resources and challenges. Participants gained valuable insights into personal leadership styles, teamwork, and how they can positively impact their schools and neighborhoods.

“We’re incredibly proud of this outstanding group of students,” said Susan Hollady, Executive Director of Leadership Oakland. “They showed curiosity, compassion, and a real commitment to learning how they can make a difference. Programs like Jr. LO ensure our community has a bright future led by informed, engaged citizens.”

This year’s cohort represented 16 area schools, including Avondale, Troy, Lake Orion, Farmington, Bloomfield Hills, Rochester, West Bloomfield, Clawson, and the University of Detroit Jesuit, among others. Students participated in workshops, community site visits, and leadership exercises designed to develop confidence, communication skills, and civic awareness.
